Changing Spam Scoring

Logic SpamCatcher™ scans all mail messages that pass through it and gives each message a score based on the likelihood of the message being Spam or not. The higher the score, the more likely the message is Spam. Logic SpamCatcher’s course of action for a message depends on the score the message has received. The default setting for Logic SpamCatcher™ is to reject all messages that have a score of 7 or higher.

Logic SpamCatcher™ can perform three actions on a message.

  • The first action is Tag. This means the message is “tagged” as Spam by placing [SPAM] in the Subject of the email and delivering it as Low Priority.
  • The second action is Quarantine. When a message is quarantined, it is not delivered, but is instead stored on Logic SpamCatcher™ until you decide to either delete it or have it delivered. Note: Messages older than 14 days will be automatically removed from the quarantine.
  • The third action is Block. When a message is blocked, it is completely rejected and will not be delivered or stored.

You can change the rules for your account by clicking Spam Settings under Preferences. Click on Spam Settings at the top of the Preferences page.

You will be redirected to the Spam Settings page. Once the page has finished loading, you can choose to change the default actions by selecting No next to Use System Defaults under Spam Scoring, and then clicking on Save Changes.

Once you have done this, the page will load again and you will be able change the different score actions. Logic recommends setting the Tag Score to 10, the Quarantine Score to 1, and the Block Score to 7. This means that any message with a score between 1 and 7 will not be delivered but instead remain in your quarantine until you decide to either delete it or have it delivered and that any message with a score of 7 or higher will be rejected. Only messages with a score below 1 will be delivered. Once you have set the scores to the above recommended values, click Save Changes.

Blocking/Allowing Email Addresses

As well as performing different actions on email messages based on their Spam Score, Logic SpamCatcher™ also has the ability to always block (called blacklisting) or always allow (called whitelisting) certain email addresses from sending email to you. You can change your Whitelist/Blacklist under Preferences.

To always allow a certain email address to email you; add the email address to your Whitelist. This can be done by entering the full email address under Allowed Email Addresses and Domains (Whitelist) and clicking the Add button. All email messages that are received from this email address will then be allowed automatically, regardless of their Spam Score.

To remove an email address from the Whitelist, simply click on the Trash icon next to email address under Allowed Email Addresses and Domains (Whitelist).

To always reject a certain email address, add the email address to your Blacklist. This can be done by entering the full email address under Blocked Email Addresses and Domains (Blacklist) and clicking the Add button. All emails that are received from this email address will then be blocked automatically.

To remove any email address, simply click on the Trash icon next to email address under Blocked Email Addresses and Domains (Blacklist).

Maintaining Your Quarantine

To maintain your quarantine, you must first log on to Logic SpamCatcher™. Once you have logged into the Logic SpamCatcher™, you will be taken to your Quarantine Inbox. If you have any messages in your quarantine inbox, they will be displayed here.

Clicking on a message in your quarantine will display the message. Clicking on Deliver will deliver the message to your email inbox. Clicking on Whitelist will add the sender of the message to your Whitelist (all further messages from this email address will not be scanned for Spam). Clicking on Delete will permanently remove the message from your quarantine.

You can also perform the same action on multiple messages at once be clicking the check box next to each message or clicking on the checkbox next Time Received to select all messages. You can then click either the Deliver, Whitelist, or Delete button at the top to perform that particular action on the selected messages.
