www.weather.bm - This morning, a hacker or group of hackers put a virus on the www.weather.bm website and possibly others on the Island. Logic's engineers noticed the problem and resolved it early this morning; the www.weather.bm website is now fully operational. A complete investigation into the incident is underway lead by Logic, in conjunction with the Bermuda Weather Service.

If your computer has all the current patches installed from Microsoft and Adobe, combined with up-to-date virus protection it is unlikely that the virus would have spread to your computer. However if you visited the website www.weather.bm this morning and think your computer maybe infected there are simple steps to follow to help rectify the problem: go to http://www.malwarebytes.org and click the "Download free version" link on the left. Follow the instructions to install the software, scan your computer and remove the virus.

Billing Issues - Logic’s billing system had a glitch last night and some direct debit customers were incorrectly charged a $5 late fee. Not all $5 late fees were incorrect. Logic’s Customer Care team is investigating the problem and will post an update here when the situation is fixed.

Network Maintenance Update - The network maintenance is complete, with no unexpected service disruptions.

Network Maintenance - Logic will perform emergency network maintenance on Friday, May 29, 2009 between 11:00PM and 01:00AM (ADT). Broadband customers will experience a brief service interruption.

Phishing Attack Update - Logic has finished contacting customers affected by the phishing attack. It is possible that some customers who are not on the Logic network or have email systems not hosted by Logic were not notified. Logic encourages everyone to read the May 4th announcement below and follow the steps outlined if necessary.

Phishing Attack - A hacker or group of hackers sent an email solicitation to many different addresses on the Island in an attempt to gain access to customer account information.

These emails are called phishing attacks, and are common on the Internet, for all companies. Logic has a number of safeguards in place to stop and mitigate phishing attacks.

Logic's network security was automatically able to block the majority of the emails from being delivered. This measure greatly reduced the number of people exposed to the phishing attack.

Additionally, Logic immediately blocked access to the hacker's website and worked with the other ISPs on the Island so they too could block access to the hacker's website. This tactic reduced the number of people affected by the phishing attack.

Currently, Logic is in the process of contacting all people possibly exposed to the phishing attack to further secure their account if necessary. Long Distance Fraud - Recently the incidence of long distance fraud in Bermuda has increased. It is important that you are aware of this fraud as it could be costly and carries with it privacy concerns. Additionally, you may be able to take steps to reduce your risk of becoming a future victim of long distance fraud.

Overseas hackers are gaining access to telephone systems ("PBXs") in Bermuda and relaying calls to the rest of the world. This type of fraud is not unique to Bermuda, it happens worldwide. Many of our customers have PBX systems and if you do, you are at risk. This type of fraud is essentially impossible for any of the long distance carriers to detect because there is no way to distinguish between your regular long distance calls, and the fraudulent long distance calls.

Logic is working with the major PBX vendors on the island, and they are aware of the situation. There are some mitigating steps that can help secure your PBX and reduce the likelihood of future fraud. We strongly recommend that you contact your PBX vendor directly as they should know your specific environment and how to best address the situation.

Logic is also working with the other long distance carriers on the Island, the Bermuda Police Service and the Ministry of Energy, Telecommunications & E-Commerce to address the problem.

Logic recommends that you review your long distance bills closely and report any suspicious or fraudulent activity to Logic at support@logic.bm or by calling 296-9600 and Detective Constable Paul Fenwick of the Bermuda Police Service at pfenwick@bps.bm or by calling 299-8014.

Intermittent Service Update - Logic apologizes for the intermittent service outages last Thursday night and Friday morning. To address the situation Logic re-engineered its power systems at one of its equipment facilities. The enhancements are now complete and greatly improve Logic's ability to handle power related issues in the future.

January 30th, 2009

Intermittent Service - During the past 24 hours, Logic customers experienced intermittent service outages due to a power surge that impacted the operations of critical Logic equipment. Although Logic's equipment facility is equipped with back-up power, this system failed to handle the overload. Logic is re-engineering its back-up power supply which will be completed this weekend.
